10 Keys to Personal Power

  • Clarify: "Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life.  Have a sense of direction and know where you’re going.  If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."
This key is saying that you need to know what you want. It can mean what you want to do in life or accomplish within a time period. It can mean what you want to become or what job you want. It can also mean what you want to own or what you want to obtain. Clarifying to yourself what you want is very important as it gives you a foundation. This foundation can help you begin a journey and it keep leading you to the goal you desire. Without a foundation it will lead you wondering around. A foundation can be many things, it can be your dream job, it can be activities you always wanted to try, or it can be what you always wanted to get. Without a foundation you will most likely take whatever is in front of you or something immediate you can get and you will most likely be unsatisfied with what you. If you aren't sure what you want to do then you will be easily manipulated by those who know what they want. I will try to apply this key in my life by figuring out what I want to do when I get out of high school. Paulo Coelho said, "Whenever you want to achieve something, keep your eyes open, concentrate and make sure you know exactly what it is you want. No one can hit their target with their eyes closed.”

  • Competence: "If you commit to excellence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."

The key is telling you that you need to work. When you go out and work it will help you find things. Working can help you find new people, learn new things, and it can help you find opportunities. Committing to excellence will surely help you find new opportunities.  For example, working for a long time is good since you have a lot of experience and that experience can lead to new things. The experience can lead you to getting a promotion or a rise. A workplace usually does employee of the month rewards and if you work hard enough you can be the employee of the month and you will receive that reward. If you don't commit to anything or try to excel in anything then there will be a lot of closed doors. You can't just stand around doing nothing because when you do nothing there will be way less opportunities coming your way. All you need to do is work and work harder and this will help open more doors in your life. I will try to apply this key in my life by working harder in my classes. Margaret Thatcher said, ""I do not know anyone who has got to the top without hard work. That is the recipe. It will not always get you to the top, but should get you pretty near."
  • Concentration: "Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself “Is this the best use of my time?” before you start anything."
This key is saying that you need to know how to use your time. You need to know how to use your time effectively. You also need to make sure that whatever you are doing is a good use of your time. Concentration is very important for making progress. You can't learn if you are not concentrated. You can't finish your chores if you aren't concentrated. You won't finish your homework if you are not fully concentrated. Having concentration can be hard but there are many ways for you to concentrate. You could remove things around you that can distract you such as your phone or turning off the TV. You can avoid chatting with your friends during class so you can use your time to finish your work. I will try to use this key whenever I need to do a lot of homework.  Israelmore Ayivor said, "The more you concentrate on what you discover that you will be good for you to pursue, the more experienced you will be while doing it.”

  • Common Sense Train your mind, think things through, listen to your intuition, learn from setbacks

This key is saying that you need to learn and use what you already know.  Common sense is important because it is something that you instantly know. Common sense can help you in certain situations and helps you solve them quicker. You can be born with some common sense. For example, as a child when you see a big stray dog on the street then you know it's not completely safe to get near it. Another example is when you see a fire you instantly know you shouldn't touch it. Sometimes you have to train your mind which means you have to learn common sense. Usually when you are young, your parents and teachers teaches you basic common sense. Common sense you learn is that you never completely trust someone you just meet. They teach you whats right and wrong and that becomes common sense. Common sense is crucial whenever you come across a everyday situation because they help you think things through. I will try to use this key whenever I need to figure out a situation. Gavin de Becker “intuition is always right in at least two important ways; It is always in response to something. it always has your best interest at heart."

  • Creativity "Except the fact that every human being is a genius.  The hallmark of creativity is asking questions.  The people who are most creative ask the most questions."
This key is saying that you need to start questioning things. You can question the things around you. You can question the function of the things around you. You could make questions about the people around you. You can think why people act in certain ways. You can think about the reasons why they made certain life choices. To be creative you usually need to be educated. When people are trying to be creative they either make it based on a subject. This is the main reason why you should ask questions because when you ask questions and try to find the answers for them it can help you greatly. For example, sometimes creative things like art and the artist can add very little details that can reference something from multiple subjects. I will try to use this new key when ever I need to do a creative project. Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.”

  • Consideration  "The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life." "Develop the people skills you need to become a better communicator.  Take courses in listening, speaking, etc." "If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you’ll be the best educated person in history."
This key is important to strive for because it something that can be useful in almost any situation. This type of skill is a people skills or a thinking skill. Consideration is important because it can help improve your relationships with other people. Improving your relationship with people is important because it can determine your success in life. Success not only in business but on how well you interacted with people in your lifetime. Being considerate is important in business because it helps you communicate with your customers better. It can help build trust with them and it can ensure loyal customers. Businesses can fail if they don't communicate with their customers very well. Communicating with customers is important so you can know what their needs are and what you can do to make them happy. That's why you should learn to be considerate by taking lessons on how to listen and speak to people. I will try to use this key whenever I want to strengthen my relationship with someone. Amit Kalantri said, "A slip of the foot may injure your body, but a slip of the tongue will injure your bond.”
  • Consistency "Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work." "Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work.  Be the person that people can depend upon.  That if you say you’ll do something you do it.."

Being consistent helps you succeed outside and in your job. Being consistent can mean being reliable and dependable. You can be consistent with your family and friends. Consistency means that you are someone your friends and family can depend on, someone who can help them. Being consistent can help build up your reputation. Consistency can mean you being always productive. Consistency can mean living up to your expectations in a workforce. It can also mean being consistent to yourself, going through on your promises. Someone who is inconsistent is someone who is lazy and doesn't get their work done. Inconsistent people don't live up to their expectations in a workplace and don't keep their promises. I will try to use this key when I start working and to build up trust between people. Roy T. Bennett said, "Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them.”

  • Commitment "No success is possible without commitment.  The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success." "Become totally absorbed in your work.  Be totally committed."
This key is one of the most important things when you want to succeed. Anyone can start almost anything, but not everyone can finish it. Taking the first step is easy but commitment is what takes you up those stairs. Having commitment can mean being motivated in what you're doing. It also mean having perseverance and not giving up. It also mean putting in a lot of effort. Commitment is what helps you achieve your goals. Many goals in life cannot be achieved without effort. For example, you can't just say you want to go to college and expect it to magically happen. This is when you need to become committed to that goal because a big goal like that needs you to become devoted to it. It needs you to work harder over many years. Even when you achieve the goal sometimes you have to be committed to keep that goal. I will apply this key to my life by being committed to my goal of going to college. Peter F. Drucker said, "Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes; but no plans.”

  • Courage "The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life."
This key is telling you that you should not be scared. When you want to achieve things in life its not always gonna be easy. Most of the time the steps you need to take to achieve your goal can be very stressful. The steps might be terrifying to some especially when you're new to it. This is why you need to have courage. Courage also helps you get through these steps. Courage helps you overcome many obstacles. Without courage you would be too scared to achieve goals. Taking risks need courage. Without that you will most likely stay in one place your entire life. Without having courage you will most likely fail in life. I will try to apply this key when ever I need to start taking risks in order to achieve my goal. E.E. Cummings, “It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

  • Confidence "You only get confidence by doing things over and over again ."
This key is saying that repetition is important to gaining confidence. Confidence is usually gained when you have experience in something. Confidence can build over time when you are doing work. As you keep working you become more confident in what you do and you will began having less doubts. This is why you shouldn't give up on something new. If you keep working hard you won't doubt yourself anymore. Its hard when you start at first but repetition is what will make it easier and take off stress. Even confidence in other things can led to confidence in others. If you have experience working on something difficult or serious then you will feel confident when you come across something difficult even it is not the same thing.  For example, I remember working on projects where I have to present in front of a class, but now since I done it a lot I feel more calm even in different projects for different classes. I will try to use this key by trying to do well on my essays for English so I can do well in the English exam. Lucille Ball said, "Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.”

Reflection: These keys can benefit me by helping me find ways to succeed. I am applying the commitment and confidence keys these keys are helping me get through this work. I will incorporate the other keys into my goals journal by making goals that are similar to the key.
During the winter break I went to my girlfriends house and I celebrated Christmas and new years with her. I went to Mexico and I visited my cousin's house. I met some of my family members and I visited some friends. I watched different movies like Kingsmen and Hangover. Some of my CTR experiences was helping my parents clean around the house, wrap presents, and I gave a gift to my girlfriend. During the first week of my break I did all my history homework and a essay for English class. I also got 3 gifts for Christmas from my parents and I liked them a lot. During the break there was also a huge fire in the alley right next to my house at 1 am and it burned down the power lines and the lights inside my house were flickering
