Six Rules to Make People Like You

- Become genuinely interested in other people
This rule is straight forward and easy to understand. To follow this rule you should meet new people. Once you done the first step you should do start talking with them a lot. One of the things you should avoid is making all your conversations all about yourself. You shouldn't try to get other people interested in you. What you should do is try to be interested in what the other person is talking about. With this rule you can make a lot more friends than without using this rule. One way to do this is why asking them things about themselves such as what do they like and what they do. I will try to apply this new way by starting up a conversation by asking a person what they like. Karl Lagerfeld said "“A respectable appearance is sufficient to make people more interested in your soul”

- Smile
A smile can have many benefits. A smile can brighten people's day. A smile can be contagious and spread happiness to others. A smile can really add a lot to your appearance. It can make a good first impression when you apply for a job as it shows you are confident and happy to take this job. When you smile it can actually help reduce stress. A smile can help you meet new people. Even a forced smile can help you feel better than those who don't. I will try to apply this way whenever I have feeling stressed. Mother Teresa said, "Peace begins with a smile."

- Remember names
Remembering names is one thing you should always do when trying to make friends. People will like it when you remember their name. When you remember a person's name its a sign of respect. When you don't remember their name it imply that you don't find them interesting. Its especially important to know how to pronounce their name correctly. When you remember a person's name they will most likely remember yours. One thing you should also avoid is confusing the person's name for someone else. There are different ways to remember someones name. You can repeat the person's name a lot of times. You can also connect the name to something about the person. I will try to apply this rule whenever I meet someone new. Dale Carnegie said,"a person is more interested in his or her own name than in all the other names on earth put together. Remember that name and call it easily, and you have paid a subtle and very effective compliment."

- Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves
This is a MUST when you are trying to make new friends. When you are a good listener you can learn new things about a person. This will help you develop what you think or feel towards that person. It can also show the person that you are interested and that you care. If you don't pay attention to them they might see it as disrespectful. When you encourage others to talk more about themselves you can learn even more things about them. It will also show to them that you are interested in their life. When you are a listener then they will listen to you. I will try to apply this rule whenever im talking with someone. Zeno of Citium said, "We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say."

- Talk in terms of the other man's interest.
This is one of the best things to talk about when you're having a conversation. When you start up a conversation one of the first things you should ask is what they like. This is when you combine this rule with the previous rules such as being a good listener and become interested in what they are talking about. When someone talks about what they like they can reveal a lot about themselves. You can ask about their hobbies. You can ask about their type of music. You talk about the their opinions on certain politics. You can also ask them about their favorite weather. I will use this rule when I want to know more about a person. Shannon L. Alder said,“If you want to discover the true character of a person, you have only to observe what they are passionate about.”
Reflection: I believe all these steps are important. These rules show you different rules you should follow when you meet new people. These rules are important because it shows you how to get people to like you. They teach you how to behave around people. It teaches you how to talk to them. It teaches you how to make them feel important. One of the example that is given is that you need to ask the person what they are interested in and this shows that you think their interests are important to you. Another example it gives us is that we need to be good listeners because it shows that you think what they are saying its important. One of the most important examples states that you should remember the person's name which is very respectful. I will try to use all these rules when I meet someone new and ask them to talk about themselves.
- Make the other person feel important- and do it sincerely.
